Mobile World Congress is right around the corner and most leading smartphones go into a frenzy right before the event. We can now include Blackberry to the list of brands, which have joined the race this year. While the event is scheduled to start from February 27, 2017, many brands are hosting a separate event ahead of the MWC to announce their big launch. This year seems to be the setup for a couple of grand comebacks in the smartphone industry. Nokia has already made it clear that it is going to makes its comeback at MWC with its all new Nokia 6 smartphone. Now, Blackbery that has almost been defunct for most of last year, took everyone by surprise when it released a teaser of its much-hyped Mercury smartphone ahead of the Mobile World Congress. According to the teaser, the new smartphone will be announced at 11.30 pm IST in Barcelona, Spain on February 25, 2017. Notably, the Canadian brand had showcased the device at CES 2016, at which time it was still in pre-production.
The teaser launched by the brand shows a stunningly beautiful handset with carbon fiber like back panel, all metal build quality, the cult Blackberry QWERTY physical keyboard, a large display and USB Type-C port. While we are glad about the return of the signature keyboard, this time around the keyboard serves other purposes as well. Blackberry has integrated a trackpad in the keyboard and fingerprint sensor in the spacebar, which is very unique. The display on the front of this handset is a 4.5-inch unit with an aspect ratio of 4:3, which is decent enough. We can expect the handset to come running on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system, out of the box. On the specifications front, this smartphone has been equipped with a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625, 3 GB of RAM, 3400 mAh battery and 18 Megapixels primary snapper. It is being speculated that the rear camera of the handset features the same Sony camera sensor that featured on Google Pixel lineup and is the best in the market as of now. Knowing Blackberry, this handset will probably come with a hefty price tag and yet we cannot wait to get our hands on it.
